Focus on Life 52 photos week 15 "Aged Beauty"

Hi Y'all,

Week 15 of Sally Russick's Focusing on Life 52 photo's prompt is "Aged Beauty".
I have always been fascinated with old items, old furniture, old buildings and old homes.  So after work last Saturday I went out and took pictures of some old homes in the downtown area of Montgomery.

This house was originally built in 1863 during the civil war. The front of this house was changed in 1908 and still looks the same today.  The following photo is of the historical sign telling the history of the house.

It is amazing the transformation of this house just by changing the front entrance it is hard to believe it is the same house.

This is the second of the Dowe houses built in 1885.  I love all the gingerbread designs on the outside of this old Victorian. In this photo you can not really see it, but there is a beautiful stained glass window above the front door. Below is the second side of the historical sign explaining the history of the other two Dowe homes.

This is the third of the Dowe homes built in 1890.

These homes are a bit of Montgomery's past that is still standing and is now surrounded by modern architecture.

If you would like to see more "Aged Beauty" go on over to Sally's blog and check them out.

Happy beading Y'all,
Therese

  2. Love your old houses, Therese! I always love visiting old buildings - they hold so much characters between their walls, and they could tell us so many stories if they could :)

  7. I love wandering around the old parts of cities looking at the homes. I cringe when I see what some people think are appropriate rennovations to wonderful old homes!

  10. Hi Therese, I felt like I was on a Montgomery Historic Homes Tour - great job. I love the gingerbread too but always feel a bit of sympathy for the folks who have to paint it. What a job!

  13. These are some fine "Painted Ladies"! It would be a real treat to see these beautiful homes in person. I've never been to the South, but that would surely be a great reason to go! (And the cherry blossoms!). Thank you for a great tour, I mean, post!

  15. I just love old houses, especially Victorians. Being in the west there aren't many opportunities to see that many - so glad to see folks taking care of them.

  16. Historic homes, I love them. If the walls could talk, what stories they would tell.

  17. Nothing I love more than photographing old houses like the ones you did. Sadly, the town I live in doesn't have many worth photographing anymore. Thanks for sharing the beauty of where you live.

  19. Beautiful. I was lucky enough to own a 1904 Victorian for a bit. It was a disaster and a delight all at once.

  21. It really is amazing how different the first house looks in the two photos on the plaque. The older front made it look like a home. The new front is beautiful and imposing, but my first thought was that it was a bank. Think it's my west coast upbringing coming out.

The second house with all the gingerbread is definitely my favorite!

  22. Got distracted by phone call. If this is a duplicate comment please delete.
I have always dreamed of living in an old Victorian with a wrap around porch, but hubby (probably thinking of the painting of all that gingerbread) said NOPE!

  24. These homes are gorgeous Therese! I absolutely adore old homes and have plenty of them up here too. The old Victorian styles are my favorite. I would love to own one but they look like money pits with constant upkeep!
